What is the Longest Day 80?

80 years ago this June, our allied military forces undertook an operation which was to become the undoing of the Nazi occupation of northern France. Over 150,000 stormed the shores of Normandy, with many paying the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Longest Day 80 is our way of marking that moment and the challenges that are faced every day by military personnel and their families across the UK. We want you to use this opportunity to reflect on their actions, and challenge yourself to make a difference to those who need the most help.

Activity ideas

Here are a few ideas to inspire you to take part this June. You have the flexibility to customise the challenge to suit your ability.

Cycle

Cycle 80 miles throughout June and break that goal into daily goals.

Exercise

Commit to 80 minutes of exercise daily or break that up over the week. Try something new each day.

Move

Experiment with 80 different body movements during June. This could include yoga poses, dance moves, or martial arts techniques.

Why take part?

Whether mentally, physically or socially wounded we support the most in need. They are the ex-service personnel who have fallen furthest from where they want to be and need a personalised programme to help them get back on their feet.

You will directly support our three core programmes of support; employment, mental health and support care coordination.

What to expect

To inspire and motivate we will have our campaign Ambassador David ‘Monkey’ Moncrieff, RAF veteran and Invictus Games Team UK Athlete, hosting daily activities and exercises.

The activities will be shared on this website and through our social media channels. These are designed to be accessible and adaptable.

Follow Monkey on his Longest Day 80 Challenge. Step up to the challenge and get your friends and family involved! We want to see you push yourself whilst raising money and awareness for Walking With The Wounded.
